Bill Watterud
Licensed Public Adjuster | Insurance Appraiser | Co-Owner, Disaster Adjusting & Colorado Claim Appraisers
Bill Watterud is a Licensed Public Adjuster, insurance appraiser, and co-owner of Disaster Adjusting and Colorado Claim Appraisers. With more than 45 years of experience in construction, restoration, and property insurance claims, he has dedicated his career to helping homeowners and commercial property owners recover after significant property losses.
A second-generation insurance professional, Bill was introduced to the property restoration and insurance industry at a young age through his father. That early exposure developed into a lifelong career built around understanding property damage, construction methods, restoration practices, and the insurance claim process.
Bill’s career began in construction and restoration, where he developed a practical understanding of how buildings are constructed, repaired, and restored following catastrophic damage. Over the decades, that hands-on experience evolved into extensive knowledge of residential, commercial, and large-loss property claims involving fire, smoke, wildfire, water, hail, wind, tornadoes, structural damage, and other complex property losses.
Throughout his career, Bill has worked on thousands of insurance claims, providing him with a comprehensive understanding of property damage evaluation, repair estimating, scope development, policy interpretation, and claim negotiation. His experience as both a Licensed Public Adjuster through Disaster Adjusting and an insurance appraiser through Colorado Claim Appraisers gives him a unique perspective on the entire claim process, from initial damage documentation through negotiation, settlement, and, when necessary, the appraisal process.
As a public adjuster, Bill represents policyholders throughout the insurance claim process, conducting thorough property inspections, identifying damage that may otherwise be overlooked, developing detailed scopes of repair, preparing comprehensive estimates, and negotiating directly with insurance companies. He is known for combining decades of construction knowledge with careful documentation and persistent advocacy to help policyholders pursue fair and accurate claim settlements.
Bill has also served as both an appraiser and umpire in valuation disputes, bringing extensive estimating expertise and construction knowledge to the insurance appraisal process. That experience further strengthens his ability to evaluate claims from multiple perspectives while maintaining a strong understanding of how property losses are documented and valued.
At Disaster Adjusting, Bill focuses on protecting the interests of policyholders through detailed inspections, thorough claim preparation, strategic negotiation, and comprehensive claim management. His approach emphasizes technical accuracy, extensive documentation, construction-based analysis, and strong representation throughout every stage of the claim.
Today, through both Disaster Adjusting and Colorado Claim Appraisers, Bill continues to work with homeowners, commercial property owners, contractors, attorneys, and insurance professionals. Across both organizations, he remains committed to helping property owners navigate complex insurance claims, applying decades of construction and claims experience, and working toward fair, well-supported claim resolutions.

Experience Across Every Stage of the Claims Process
While Disaster Adjusting focuses on representing policyholders throughout the insurance claim process, our sister company, Colorado Claim Appraisers, specializes in resolving amount-of-loss disputes through the insurance appraisal process. Together, Bill and Susan’s experience across both organizations provides a comprehensive understanding of property claims from initial damage documentation through claim negotiation, appraisal, and final resolution.
Why Construction Experience Matters
A successful insurance claim requires more than understanding policy language. It requires understanding how buildings are constructed, how different types of damage affect structural and building systems, and what it takes to restore a property properly.
Our team’s background in construction and restoration provides valuable insight throughout the claims process. We understand how homes and commercial buildings are built, how they perform during fire, wind, hail, water, and other catastrophic events, and how repairs should be completed to return the property to its pre-loss condition.
That experience allows us to evaluate damage beyond what may be immediately visible. We know how to recognize conditions that may require additional investigation, identify repair items that may be missing from an estimate, and develop comprehensive scopes of work supported by sound construction principles and industry-standard estimating practices.
By combining construction knowledge with extensive insurance claim experience, we help policyholders build well-documented claims that accurately reflect the full scope of covered damage.
Experience Across Residential and Commercial Property Losses
Over the course of their careers, Bill and Susan have worked with property owners across a wide range of residential and commercial losses. Their experience includes claims involving everything from single-family homes to large commercial and industrial properties, each with its own unique construction methods, operational challenges, and restoration requirements.
Our team has experience working with claims involving:
- Single-family homes
- Condominiums
- Townhomes
- Multi-family and apartment communities
- Retail centers
- Restaurants
- Office buildings
- Hospitality and hotel properties
- Industrial facilities
- Manufacturing facilities
- Agricultural properties
- Churches and places of worship
- Schools and educational facilities
- Warehouses and distribution centers
- Mixed-use commercial properties
Regardless of the property type or complexity of the loss, our approach remains the same. We conduct detailed inspections, carefully document damage, develop comprehensive scopes of repair, prepare well-supported estimates, and advocate for policyholders throughout the insurance claim process. Our goal is to help ensure every covered loss is properly evaluated so property owners have the information and representation they need to pursue a fair settlement.
Experienced Claim Professionals on Your Side
When your property is damaged, you are suddenly pushed into a process that feels unfamiliar and stacked against you. You are expected to understand policy language, construction details, and claim numbers while trying to get your home or business back to normal.
At Disaster Adjusting, our team steps in to represent you. We focus on correctly identifying damage, building a clear claim, and pushing for a fair settlement so you are not left guessing whether your insurance company missed something important or paid too little.
Why Who Represents You Matters
Insurance claims are technical. The outcome can depend on how well damage is documented, how repairs are estimated, and how confidently your position is presented. That is where the knowledge, experience, and mindset of your team make a real difference.
We bring a combination of field experience, construction background, and claim handling insight to every file. Our team is focused on one thing only: protecting policyholders so they are not overlooked, underpaid, or pressured into accepting less than what is needed to restore their property.
When you work with Disaster Adjusting, you get:
- A licensed public adjusting team that works only for policyholders
- Clear explanations of what is happening with your claim and why it matters
- Careful attention to missed or under-scoped damage in estimates
- Claim preparation that is organized, documented, and ready for negotiation
- Steady representation through the claim and, when needed, through appraisal
How Our Team Supports Your Claim
From the first walkthrough to final settlement, our team is focused on building a strong, well-supported claim for your property. We start by reviewing your policy, inspecting your damage, and comparing what we see on-site with what is included in the insurance company’s estimate.
We then prepare detailed documentation to support the true scope of repairs, present that information clearly to the carrier, and push for corrections where items have been missed or undervalued. Throughout the process, you have professionals explaining your options, next steps, and what to expect so you are not left trying to interpret industry language on your own.
Why Property Owners Choose Disaster Adjusting
Property owners come to Disaster Adjusting when they feel overwhelmed, underrepresented, or unsure if their loss has been evaluated correctly. Our team brings years of hands-on construction and claim experience together with a strong commitment to policyholder advocacy.
We understand how buildings are put together, how different types of damage affect them, and how those issues should be reflected in a claim file. Just as important, we are comfortable challenging incomplete conclusions and pushing back when something is not right. If you are facing a fire, water, storm, hail, or other property loss and want someone on your side who will look closely, ask hard questions, and stand firm when needed, our team is ready to review your situation and help you decide your next step.
